With some birthday moolah plus money of my own, I purchased a Shure wireless headset mic. I yam hexcited! I need to test it with someone else's PA and mixer, but if it works I'll have something that will really free me up to be the best performer I can be. No wires, no mic to hold.

Tested the mic tonight. Works pretty darned well for what it is. The wire holding it on one's head is the weak point. Shure did a very bad design that way. But the mic itself and the transceiver are quality. Can't wait to try it out live! I'm going to try to find the same gauge wire and make a better-fitting wire. That's the weak link.

Alright. Now I'm really going to be eating ramen. I bought my mic during a period where Musician's Friend was doing "buy $--- worth of equip., get a coupon for $--- off your next purchase". So I was browsing to see how I could best use my $50 off coupon before it expired. I could have used it for some cables. I could have used it for paying for about half an electric-acoustic uke. The latter didn't make a lot of sense to me since I'm trying to get away from playing my own instruments on stage and the former would have been a stretch to buy $50 worth of cables.

So I started browsing PA/mixer sets again. I decided that I needed one of these when the club we played had a sound "system" that came out of a Cracker Jack box. Having my own equipment would allow me to play more places, including taking gigs at private parties. The sets are cheaper than buying the components separately but they're still not cheap. So when I bought the headset, I thought that was it. I got yet another coupon code from Musician's Friend today that was for 10% off. Normally I would assume that you couldn't compound coupon codes but I thought I'd ask them just to be sure. I called them up. She said normally they wouldn't be because she was nice, she would. Which made me feel like I had to strike while the iron was hot (which I'm sure is why they authorize salespeople to do that). So I bought it. $150 off the already-discounted price.

I chose this system not because it gets the bestest reviews. But the Gigrac is really portable. Like you can sling it over your shoulder. And with my RSI, that's an issue. The Peaveys are reputed to be light as well. The sound quality reviews on the Peaveys are very good and the quality reviews on the Gigrac were that it was pretty good. Good enough.

I'm already thinking of what I can sell on Craig's List and Ebay. At least one bike, books galore, a number of LPs, and I'm sure I'll find more. Got to get that credit card debt I never meant to accrue down to nothing before the zero interest period expires.
